Reconnecting to Sleep
Good Morning Jennifer...
I am sending you this email with gratitude and thanks for you and your sleep clinic class that I attended in January...
In January when I started your classes I was lucky to have a solid 2 hours of sleep without waking up... I cheered out loud in the middle of the night if I slept 3 hours... My goal when starting your classes was to have 4 hours of consecutive sleep... I felt sleep was over rated and a waste of time as those were valuable hours to do other things... During the first class you explained that we needed to have dark, quiet, decluttered room with no distractions from phones or TV's... you suggested journaling to dump the thoughts... you suggested a bedtime routine... you gave us a list of things that we needed to do with timelines sets prior to bedtime... you even gave us bed times and wake up times to create routines with our average of limited hours of sleep...
I am a retail store manager that works shift work... I was recently transferred to a higher volume more stress store... I was recently separated... I recently was in a bad car accident... I was sleeping in my sisters kids play room or at my boyfriends house... neither of these rooms were decluttered, quiet, dark and not my environment... this was all within 2 months of the start of your classes... you and your classes helped me immensely...
I use to fall asleep with the TV on for hours into the night... I was always on my phone as this is my contact between my work, kids, family and friends... I never journaled my thoughts... I never had a bedtime routine... I never had dark or quiet... Although there is a lot of discipline when it comes to creating a routine, journaling and following the 8 week plan and although I struggled getting out of week one... I can sleep!!! I can sleep 6/8/10 hours without waking up and trying to get back to sleep... I achieved my goal and beyond!!! I do not need any white noise distractions to fall asleep... I am asleep on average within 5-10 minutes of climbing into bed and sleep until my alarm goes off:)...
I am still not in my own house... but I do have a home with my boyfriend... I am in the process of applying for a mortgage... I am still the store manager at the Kelowna Winners... I am now divorced... I have changed my name back to my maiden name... and my life is amazing!!!
Thank you Jennifer for all your support and help through this process... I still share my learnings with people who complain that they cannot sleep... this is no longer a problem for me:)...
Sincerely....
Patti
